Vicente F.
Garza, the founder of El Popular brand Mexican food
products, migrated from Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the United
States in 1925. On his journey to the Chicago area,
he brought with him authentic Mexican food recipes
and a unique entrepreneurial spirit. The recipes described
ingredients and procedures for the preparation of Mexican
specialty foods such as Chorizo, Mole, Chocolate and
Queso.
Vicente founded
his manufacturing and distribution company in 1927
in the small industrial steel town of East Chicago,
Indiana. Richard, his eldest son, acquired the company
in 1982 and continued the family tradition of producing
only all natural food recipes, free of preservatives,
artificial colors and flavors. In 2002, he turned over
the 75-year-old company to his sons. Following the
example of the founder, this generation continues the
Garza family tradition of vision, entrepreneurial spirit
and production of El Popular products.
The Garza family commitment to provide the community
with products that have high standards of quality has
made El Popular a successful leader in the Mexican
food industry.
